What is Sex Therapy?
Sex therapy is a non-drug, non-surgery treatment for sexual dysfunction. Sex therapists help people overcome problems such as:
- Erectile Dysfunction,
- the inability to have an orgasm,
- lack of sexual desire, etc.,
especially when these problems involve factors such as tiredness, stress, relationship issues, etc.
Sex therapist use counseling and other methods to treat these sexual disorders. Some practitioners have been known to even use hypnosis for treating problems such as ED
Sex therapy typically involves attending weekly or by-weekly sessions that may last from 30 minutes to two or more hours and may extend for a period of one to several months, depending on the case and on the results achieved.
A typical sex therapy session includes identifying the underlying problems (it never involves performing sexual exercises during the consultation). Once the problem(s) have been identified, the sex therapist will design a program to help you resolve them. The program generally requires you to take several steps and/or do certain exercises at home. In subsequent sessions, the therapist will ask you about your experiences with those exercises and evaluate your progress. He/she will also determine what you should do next.
In the case of an organic disability, the therapist will work with you and probably recommend you also visit your urologist in order to better attack the underlying ED issues. |
